Seattle has been on our list of places to visit for a while, so a couple weeks ago, we decided (at the last minute, as usual), to finally go! From Seattle, we headed to Vancouver, so be on the look out for that post to follow.
I planned a last minute itinerary, which I’ll include for your reference below, and while we got to most things on the list, we couldn’t get to all (traveling with a baby is rough!) But here’s my list of suggestions:
To See/Do:
- Pike’s Place (obv!): Come hungry and ready for a food tour
- Flying Fish
- First Starbucks (be ready to wait in a looooong line)
- Gum Wall … honestly, this was just gross. We got in and out, real fast
- Beecher’s Handmade Cheese: the mac n cheese is divine!
- Donuts from The Daily Dozen Doughnut Co. or Three Girls Bakery
- Uli’s Famous Sausage
- Le Panier: French pastry shop. I went for the macaroons
- You can grab your food and eat on the grass by the water for some awesome view
- Space Needle: a must see, as it’s iconic to Seattle
- Chihuly Garden and Glass: right near the Space Needle and an awesome exhibit
- Underground Tour: Did you know that Seattle rebuilt itself on top of the original city after a fire? This tours the underground city, which is pretty cool. It’s about 90 minutes long and we brought the baby and survived.
- Pioneer Square Historic District: Seattle’s first downtown. If you do the Underground Tour, this is where it starts.
- Bainbridge Island: cute restaurants, wine tasting and shops. You can take the Washington State Ferry at Pier 52 over to the island. It’s a 35-minute trip across Elliott Bay.
- Volunteer Park in Capitol Hill: there’s a conservatory and an old water tower with an awesome view of the city
To Eat:
- For Pike’s Place vendor recommendations, see list above
- Premier Meat Pies: near the Space Needle if you need a quick meal.
- Cafe Nola on Bainbridge Island: according to our server, Giada goes there for their French toast
- Mora Iced Creamery: also on Bainbridge Island, yummy ice cream.
- Pike Place Chowder: they have a location in Pike’s Place with an INSANE line (seriously, it’s longer than the first Starbucks line), so we went to the other location in the Pacific Place Shopping Center (no line). The clam chowder is delish!
- Serious Pie: bomb-ass pizza
- Storyville Coffee Company: this was right across the street from our hotel (amazing location, btw) and had a nice variety of coffee, blends and breakfast
- Cafe Presse: went for breakfast in Capitol Hill. I highly recommend the croque-madame
- Espresso Vivace: coffee shop, also in Capitol Hill.
- Salty’s- Alki Beach: this restaurant is in West Seattle, which is a 10-minute ferry ride from downtown Seattle. Really pretty views from the restaurant.
