For Memorial Day weekend, my husband and I decided to take a last minute trip. We were deciding between driving up the coast to Monterey; Joshua Tree; and New York (so random, I know). Monterey it was. We booked some last minute hotels via Hotwire (this will be a relevant point in a sec) on Friday night and left early Saturday a.m. The plan was to spend one night in San Simeon to visit Hearst Castle and then continue on to Carmel and Monterey on Sunday and Monday.
We stayed at the Days Inn San Simeon. As I just mentioned, we booked through Hotwire, so you don’t really know what you’re getting. And apparently we got one of the last few rooms available. The entire area was literally booked up, so we didn’t have much to choose from. I had really low expectations for the hotel and was practically holding my breath as we walked into the room. But it was decent and clean (all I really care about, anyway).
Our first stop was the Castle, where we had booked a guided tour of the Grand Rooms.
