A few weeks ago right before Mother’s Day, I was trying to think about what to do to celebrate with my mom. Inspired by the Love of Mothers Shoot I thought it would be special to recreate similar photos, but this time for my parents and sisters, particularly with my kids. Most of our pictures are iPhone snaps and we’re looking pretty bum-y. The last time we took family photos was in 2008, so I thought Mother’s Day would be a good time to have us all dress up and (finally) take some decent pictures taken. And because I loved the touch of the flower crowns from the Malibu shoot, I decided to DIY some floral crowns for me, Hannah, my mom and two sisters. This was my first time attempting the project, so it was a bit ambitious of me to try and make five crowns the day before, but with the help of my sweet hubby, we got it done. If you want to give it a go, here’s my step-by-step (and maybe start out with making just one lol).
- Flowers (duh). So because this was my first time making not only one, but five, flower crowns, I had no idea how much I would need when it came to flowers. So I went to Trader Joe’s and bought: (a) 4 dozen white roses; (b) 3 of the purple 8-stem flowers; (c) 2 of the eight-stem mini roses; and (d) 5 of the mixed greens. This ended up being MUCH more than I needed, even for 5 crowns. But I didn’t mind because I figured I’d just make bouquets from whatever was left over.
