With Spring just around the corner, I’ve been thinking about ways to freshen and lighten-up my home. After we renovated our house, I focused all my decorating efforts on the living space of our home, followed by my kids’ rooms. With those rooms almost completed, I’m now turning my focus to our master bedroom. I think I saved this room for last because I really want to get it right. As exhausted parents, our bedroom really is like our mini sanctuary, a space where we can recharge and relax, free of clutter (and our kids’ toys).
If you follow me on Instagram, you know I have a love for neutrals when it comes to home decor. I love to keep my big-ticket items in a neutral palette for two main reasons: First, I find neutrals to be truly calming; they create a bright and serene aesthetic, which is so important when your bedroom is your retreat. Next, having a neutral palette allows you to freely accessorize depending on your mood or the seasons. I love to add in warmer grey tones during Fall and Winter, and then switching out those accessories (like pillows and blankets) for brighter tones during Spring and Summer. You’d be surprised at how those little changes make a big impact and can change the overall feel of the room.
So as we head into a new season, I thought it would be fun to create a mood board with some of the big-ticket bedroom items I’m currently loving. To start, I love this rug to ground the room. The gray tones provide warmth for the room but the beige also brightens things up. Next, I love the wood tones on this bed. And it has a major plus: storage! You can never have too much of that.
I then like to keep my duvet covers in white. One, it reminds me of being in a relaxing hotel room, and two, like I mentioned before, you can freely accessorize with throw pillows. What I especially like about this duvet cover, though, is that it has a lot of texture, which provides for some visual interest to what may be an otherwise plain, white cover. I also love a pretty bench at the foot of the bed, a place where you can toss your bag or place a tray with some flowers and a candle. And then depending on your wall space, this beautiful art set would add warmth and interest either above your bed or on a wall next to your bed.
For nightstands, these are perfect because they also double as storage. Plus, the raffia adds texture to the room, which is important when you’re working with a neutral palette. These rustic lamps would then pair beautifully on top of the nightstands, adding warmth and height. And while we’re on the topic of lighting, I have to say how important it is because it’s the “jewelry” of the room. Investing a little in a statement chandelier really goes a long way. I love how this beaded chandelier makes a big statement, but is still neutral enough to not clash with other items in the room.
Finally, a bedroom isn’t really complete without a full-length mirror. Not only does it open up your space and make your room look bigger, but you also need something to check-out your outfits before heading out the door. This framed beauty in antique grey is a statement piece by itself, and I love how it ties in with the chandelier and lamps.
I hope this mood board provides you with some inspiration for your own room as we head into Spring. Joss & Main has always been one of my go-to sites for affordable and well-made pieces. And if you need more inspiration, be sure to check-out their Style Guide for all things transitional style.
