This is a letter I wrote to my brother four years ago, a month after his accident. I remember giving it to him on Valentine’s Day. Four years later, still praying for the same thing. I love you, Johnny.
Johnny….its now been a month since your accident. Hard to believe since it still doesn’t even feel real. You know, during those first few days when this happened, which were the scariest days I’ve ever seen, in the midst of all the fear, I still felt calm and at peace in my heart because I knew deep down that you were going to be okay. And I still have that feeling in my heart; I know you’re going to come out of this and live a fulfilling life. We never think that things like this will ever happen to us and when they do, we ask God, “why,” or what we “did” to deserve this. But the truth is that life can change for any of us at any given moment, no matter how young or old we are. None of us are shielded from the challenges life throws our way. So we just have to trust that God knows what’s best for us. It’s easy to question God and be mad at him. But we have to remember to thank God for the blessings we overlook while we’re too busy focusing on the negative. We’ll never know why certain things in our lives happen, and that’s where faith comes in. Jesus said that if we have the faith of a mustard seed, we can move mountains. He also said not to worry about your life, for just as God takes care of the birds of the air and the grass of the field, He will take care of us; we just have to have faith. But the problem is that our faith falters and we do worry. And when that happens, we have to remember that God is in control and to continually draw ourselves near Him, no matter how broken our spirit feels. God gives us wake up calls so that we can appreciate the brevity of life. And I know that when you do wake up, you’ll be a stronger person and thank God for giving you a second chance. You’ve made so many improvements in this month alone, and I’m so proud of you for fighting so hard. Just remember to always keep fighting, because with God, all things are possible. We’ll be right by your side until you’ve made a 100% recovery. I love you more than you know, and I’m missing you every second of everyday. We’ll be talking very soon, baby bro.

Thanks, love. It certainly gets hard, but the only thing you really can do in a situation like this is to trust God; after all, He loves us more than we love ourselves, and he only does what's best for us. But as humans, it's hard for us to see that. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what God's plan is for my brother. And the prayers are always appreciated! God bless!
